A brief History of St Pauls Church

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries there was a spate of church building here in Bexhill. In 1924, St Paul's Free Church of England was founded. The first meetings were held in the Glynn Hall Hotel, Sea Road. The hotel is now a block of flats.

Two plots of land, both owned by builder, Mr A Wood, a keen evangelical Christian, were donated to the church, and a simple wooden structure was erected in Wickham Avenue. where the congregation could worship together.
This building survived until 1963 when the incumbent Rev. Arthur Ward erected the present, brick building.

Due to the Coronavirus the ministry of St Paul's moved online via facebook. Currently our services are recorded and available via YouTube. (See our 'services' page)
The doors of the church were temporarily closed by the government during the 'pandemic' which brought us to our spiritual knees and to a deeper, active trust in our God of the Living, to trust in Him alone (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) for 'all matters of faith and practice'. (See Home Page and 'What We Believe and Teach')

For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death.
Psalm 48, v14

Polling Day
St Pauls Church Hall

Jesus said,
I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew Ch 16, v18.
St Pauls Church hall is now the Polling Station for Bexhill Central District Ward, Bexhill on Sea.

This is because yet another place of worship has closed its doors in our town.

As Christians, it saddens us to see churches abandoned and put up for sale, to be used for other purposes including sold to property developers.
We think of the Christian families who would have worshipped the Lord in these places of worship in our land, over hundreds of years; of the word of God that would have been preached there - and here in our town of Bexhill on Sea during the rolling centuries - and is increasingly absent in our nation today.

At St Pauls Church we rejoice that our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has kept the doors of the Fellowship open where we can continue to worship and serve Him in our community.

See our Home Page / Notices for the times of our services every Lord's Day, and other activities.
